Summary
The Maryland Charity Campaign, MCC is the only authorized workplace giving campaign offered to Maryland state employees. Annually MCC raises approximately $3.7 million for over 800 charitable organizations.
Eligibility Requirements
Note: This is a summary of the eligibility requirements for admittance to MCC. Contact the Campaign Manager for a copy of the complete regulations and current year's application.
To gain access to MCC an organization must:
- Be recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization,
- File Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service
- Expend no more than 25 percent of its gross revenue on management and fundraising. If the organization’s overhead is above 25 percent, it must present a justification and plan to reduce expenses the next fiscal year
- Be registered to solicit funds from the Maryland Secretary of State’s Office. This form can be found at: http://www.sos.state.md.us/Charity/RegisterCharity.aspx along with a checklist and instructions. The fee is $200 for organizations whose total revenue is over $100,000
- Demonstrate that it has provided significant services to Maryland residents or those in need of such services in other countries for two years prior to January 1, of the application year
- Provide evidence of financial support from Maryland residents within the past five years if the organization is providing services in other countries
- Have a majority of its governing body serve without compensation
- Provided its annual financial report available to the public upon request
