Summary  

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employees Charitable Campaign, COMECC, reaches over 100,000 state employees. It is the only authorized workplace fund drive offered to state employees. Annually, COMECC raises approximately $2 million for participating organizations.

Eligibility Requirements

To gain access to COMECC an organization must:

  • Be recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3)
  • File Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service
  • Adopt a standard of accounting and financial reporting system commonly used by voluntary, nonprofit organizations. For organizations whose gross annual revenue is greater than $250,000 organizations must commission a full-scale GAAS/GAAP audit by an independent CPA
  • Provide adequate explanation if organization’s percent overhead (administrative and fundraising costs) is greater than 25 percent of total revenue during the most recent fiscal year
  • Be governed by an active board of directors, which meets regularly, the majority of whose members serve without compensation
  • Be registered to solicit funds from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. The fee can range from $35 - $250 depending on the size of the organization
  • Provide direct or indirect services to the residents of Massachusetts, unless a majority of the organization’s services are provided overseas
  • Have a stated policy of nondiscrimination.
