Summary
The City of Boston Employees Charitable Campaign was established in 1985. Distributing approximately $350,000 per year to over 800 charities, COBECC is the only authorized workplace solicitation in the City of Boston.
Eligibility Requirements
Note: This is a summary of the eligibility requirements for participation in COBECC. Complete regulations and the current year's application can be found at the website or by contacting the Campaign Coordinator.
To qualify for participation in COBECC an organization must:
- Be recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization
- Be registered to solicit funds with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. The fee can range from $35 - $250 depending on the size of the organization
- Prepare an annual financial report. Organization s with gross receipts in excess of $250,000 must also provide an annual GAAS/GAAP external audit certified by a public accountant.
- Demonstrate ability to limit administrative and fundraising expense.
- Be governed by a volunteer Board of Directors which meets regularly and the majority of whose members serve without compensation.
- Have a stated and comprehensive policy of nondiscrimination.
- Provide direct or indirect services to the residents of the city of Boston, unless a majority of the organization’s services are provided overseas.
- Be prepared to thank donors who request an acknowledgment from their designated agency.
