about us
The Workplace Giving Alliance is a consortium of federations that have come together to promote efficiency and transparency in public-sector workplace fundraising. Each partner federation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation with its own independent board of directors.
We believe that workplace fund drives provide an important mechanism for people of ordinary means to support efforts to improve our world. We feel privileged to serve as part of that mechanism, and we wish to see it aligned as closely as possible with the generous intentions of payroll donors. We believe that efficiency and transparency are the keys to this alignment.
How We Work
We are committed to efficiency and transparency in our own operations.
Efficiency. To keep costs as low as possible for our member organizations, the Alliance partners share administrative staff who help members with applications, offer marketing advice, process pledge reports, forward donor names, and provide fiscal services.
We are highly selective about the services we offer and, as a rule, stick to the core functions of campaign operations. We believe that ancillary services such as advertising, CFC training conferences, and car donations are likely to drive up federation overhead without increasing revenue to members and may carry hidden costs.
Transparency. We strive for transparency in our fiscal services and in the advice we give federation members and applicants.
For example, in our initial report of campaign results to member organizations, we include not only pledge totals, but also a calculation of projected net receipts, showing in advance estimated amounts to be deducted for local administrative overhead and a precise number for our own fee.
In advising organizations about campaigns and related activities, we share as much as we know about the costs and potential benefits. This is especially important in state campaigns, where application costs and requirements vary from one to the next, and generalizations can be misleading.
We do not "bundle" campaigns or services. If a qualified organization wishes to affiliate with an Alliance federation for a single state campaign, we are happy to accept it even if the group participates in the CFC outside our family of federations.
In this spirit of transparency, much of the information we make available to member charities is also freely available to non-members. Two examples:
- Our Campaign Calendar helps organizations understand state and municipal workplace campaigns. We provide background information so that groups can determine whether it makes sense to participate in this or that campaign. We also list deadlines as we come to know them and publish information on how to apply.
- Our CFC Events page alerts organizations to upcoming events around the country that promote the campaign and connect potential donors with specific eligible charities. On this page, you may subscribe for automatic notification of new postings by e-mail or RSS feed -- all without cost or obligation.
